Modern Chinese
Our modern Chinese (putonghua) course offers students the opportunity to study all aspects of the modern language, with all the advantages personal tuition has to offer. Our courses are all taught by qualified native speakers, and will include speaking, listening, reading and writing tuition. Our teachers place an emphasis on verbal communication, and the environment for studying Chinese a Sinoquest placement provides allows for students to practice on a day-to-day basis.
Courses are offered to all ability levels, and a high level of flexibility is offered, allowing students to concentrate on certain aspects of their choice.
Beginners will start by learning pinyin, the Chinese romanisation system, before moving on to studying characters proper. More advanced students can move straight into original reading materials, including works by famous authors Lu Xun and Ba Jin.
The course works well side-by-side with a calligraphy course.
Classical Chinese
Our classical Chinese course offers students of all ability levels to read classical Chinese in the original language, starting with Mencius and Confucius for beginners. More advanced texts include historical records such as 'Shi ji' and philosophical treatises such as the 'Dao de jing'. Our courses are all taught by qualified native speakers, and will focus on the reading and comprehension of ancienttexts.
Courses are offered to all ability levels, and a high level of flexibility is offered, allowing students to concentrate on aspects of their choice. No foundation in modern Chinese is necessary to take this course.
The course works well side-by-side with a calligraphy course.
